Folders, Tags & Customization

Keep a library of hundreds of snippets neatly organized, visually distinct, and effortless to find using SnippetHub’s multi-layered categorization system.

Folder Organization & Customization

Folders group related snippets together (e.g., Work, Personal, Engineering, Templates). You can customize every folder in SnippetHub with a unique emoji icon and a color accent dot.

Creating a Folder

  1. Click the folder actions menu (⋮) in the side panel controls header and choose New Folder (or press ⌘ShiftN / Ctrl+Shift+N).
  2. Enter a name for the folder.
  3. Select an icon from the curated emoji chips (📁, 💻, 📧, 📝, 🛠️, 🚀, 📚, 💡, ⚡, 🎯, 🔒, 📦), or type any custom emoji into the text field.
  4. Pick a color accent from the palette swatches (Slate, Blue, Indigo, Purple, Pink, Rose, Amber, Emerald, Cyan), or use the native color picker for any custom HEX color.
  5. Click Create Folder.

Editing Existing Folders

To change a folder’s name, emoji, or accent color:

  1. Select the folder from the folder dropdown.
  2. Click the folder actions menu (⋮) and select Edit Folder.
  3. Adjust the name, pick a new emoji, or change the color swatch.
  4. Click Save Changes. All associated snippets immediately inherit the updated metadata.
  • Folder Dropdown: Click the folder menu to filter your list by folder. Each option displays its custom emoji and color accent dot.
  • Keyboard Hotkeys: Press numbers 1 through 9 to jump directly to your first 9 folders. Press 0 to view All Snippets.
  • Move Snippets: Use a snippet card’s menu to reassign its folder, or use Batch Select to move multiple snippets simultaneously.

Interactive Tag Filter Bar

Tags provide granular, cross-cutting labels (such as email, javascript, onboarding, urgent).

Features of the Tag Bar

  • Dynamic Tag Discovery: SnippetHub scans your library and generates horizontal, scrollable filter chips that display every active tag and its frequency count.
  • Deterministic Color Palette: Tags are automatically assigned harmonious, distinctive colors derived deterministically from the tag name, making them instantly recognizable.
  • Custom Tag Colors: You can define custom hex colors for specific tags in settings to ensure consistent visual branding.
  • One-Click Filtering: Click any tag chip in the bar or on a snippet card to isolate snippets containing that tag.
  • Active Filter Pill: When a tag filter is active, a highlighted pill appears above the list with a one-click ✕ button to reset your view.

Assigning Tags to Snippets

  • When creating or editing a snippet, enter comma- or space-separated tags in the Tags field (e.g., email, follow-up, client).
  • Tags render on snippet cards as interactive colored pills.
  • You can also use the Bulk Action Bar to add a tag to multiple selected snippets at once.
