Troubleshooting Guide

Find fast solutions to common questions and edge cases below.

In-Page Text Expander Not Triggering

If typing a snippet keyword does not auto-expand:

  1. Refresh the Page: If a web tab was already open when SnippetHub was installed or updated, refresh the tab so the expansion content script is loaded.
  2. Restricted Chrome Pages: Chrome restricts extensions from running content scripts on internal browser pages (chrome://*, chrome-extension://*) and the official Chrome Web Store for security reasons. Test expansion on standard websites (e.g., Gmail, GitHub, or any standard form).
  3. Verify Trigger Key & Keyword:
    • Check the Trigger dropdown in the avatar menu to confirm your active trigger prefix (e.g., ; or /).
    • If your keyword is intro and your trigger is ;, type ;intro followed by Space, Enter, or Tab.
  4. ContentEditable Delimiters: In certain rich editors (such as Gmail compose or Notion), ensure you follow the keyword with Space or Enter to finalize the expansion.

Direct Insertion Doesn’t Work on a Specific Website

Certain canvas-rendered documents (such as Google Docs) or nested cross-origin iframes block direct DOM input simulation:

  • Recommended Solution: Use the Copy button (or press Enter / C), then press ⌘V (Mac) or Ctrl+V (Windows) to paste.
  • Rich Text Preservation: Because SnippetHub writes multi-MIME payloads (text/html and text/plain), pasting into Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or Slack preserves all headings, bold formatting, links, and styling.

Global Shortcut ⌘ShiftP or ⌘K Does Not Open

  1. Navigate to chrome://extensions/shortcuts in your address bar.
  2. Scroll to SnippetHub - Text Snippet Manager.
  3. Check whether another installed Chrome extension is claiming the same keybinding.
  4. Assign a new keyboard shortcut or rebind Open the Command Palette.

Snippets Not Syncing Across Computers

  1. Verify Account: Confirm you are signed into the same Google or Email account in the side panel on both computers.
  2. Focus-Driven Refresh: Simply clicking into a tab or opening the SnippetHub side panel triggers a cache sync with the background service worker.
  3. Token Refresh: If sync does not resume, sign out and sign back in via the user avatar menu to refresh your Firebase authentication token.

Reverting to Custom Drag-and-Drop Order

If you sorted your snippets alphabetically or by usage and want to return to your manual drag-and-drop order:

  1. Click the Sort Order button in the list controls header.
  2. Select Default. Your customized drag-and-drop layout will be restored immediately.

Password Reset Email Not Received

If you requested a password reset but didn’t receive the email:

  1. Check Spam / Promotions Folder: Automated Firebase authentication emails can occasionally be filtered into spam or promotional folders.
  2. Verify Email Address: Ensure the email address entered matches the exact address used when creating your account.
  3. Google Sign-In Accounts: If you originally registered using Sign In with Google, your account uses Google OAuth rather than a password. Use the Google sign-in button instead.

Window Pop-In Behavior

When clicking Pop in to sidebar from the standalone popup window:

  • Chrome brings your last-focused normal browser window to the foreground and automatically opens the side panel.
  • If you have multiple Chrome profiles open simultaneously, ensure you return to the Chrome profile window where the extension is running.
